Winery Notes (2026 Vintage)
"Felton Road farms four properties totaling 34 ha in the Bannockburn subregion of Central Otago. Block 2 is an east facing gravel outwash fan situated on the Elms vineyard immediately to the north of Block 3. The soils are very deep, angular schist gravels with a thin loess covering.

Vinification Riesling from Block 2 of The Elms vineyard was hand picked then carefully whole bunch pressed, settled for 6-7 days before racking, then followed by a slow fermentation of 7 weeks with indigenous yeasts to almost complete dryness (7g/L RS). The wine rested on fine lees to build palate weight before bottling in late-August after minimal processing (no fining or cold stabilisation) to preserve and highlight the delicate Riesling characters.

Analytically speaking, this is the most acidic Dry Riesling in our history. Thankfully it has fruit. An abundance of it, in fact. Mandarin, kumquat, melon, peach; a panoply of yellow, pink and orange. First soaring from the glass, then cascading across the palate, this deluge of fruit brings an impression of weight and smoothness; there is tactile depth and harmony. Yet once the fruit subsides, the acidity continues to crackle with energy and notes of sea spray encourage another sip…"

Rated Outstanding & 96/100 Cameron Douglas MS, December 2025 (2025 Vintage)
"A bouquet that begins with scents of white flowers and minerality, a fresh water stream, wet pebbles, then pure fruit scents of lemon and apple, lime and white flowers. Naturally dry with a backbone of acidity, flavours reflect the bouquet with a long finish. Complex, pure, ripe and utterly delicious. A fantastic wine that is excellent drinking today and through the next ten to fifteen years."

Felton Road Wines epitomises the harmony of organic and biodynamic viticulture with a commitment to quality and sustainability. The Felton Road Pinot Noir Bannockburn showcases their dedication to crafting exceptional wines. This vintage reveals a nose of dark roses and violets, offering a transparent and ethereal character. On the palate, it presents savoury notes with lovely fruits and no hint of New World sweetness. The tannins are firm but not harsh, complemented by subtle herbal tones that add freshness and intrigue. It’s a classic expression from their four Bannockburn vineyards.

Similarly, Felton Road's Chardonnay Bannockburn stands out with its pure grapefruit zest, citrus, and stonefruit kernel. The palate balances acid effortlessly, with a clean profile and a pleasing absence of oak, making it a benchmark Chardonnay.

Felton Road's Riesling Bannockburn impresses with brooding aromas of wet stones and stonefruits. It opens with a burst of sweetness tempered by intense stonefruit flavours and crisp acidity, reflecting the uniqueness of their Bannockburn terroir.

Felton Road’s meticulous approach begins with site selection and organic practices. Their four vineyards in Bannockburn, managed with precision and hand care, contribute to wines that express their terroir authentically. The gravity-flow winery and non-interventionalist winemaking methods preserve the true character of each varietal, making their wines both approachable and age-worthy.
