Winery notes (2026 Vintage)
"Felton Road farms four properties totaling 34 ha in the Bannockburn subregion of Central Otago. Block 1 is a north facing slope immediately west of Block 3 on The Elms vineyard. It consists of the same Waenga soils (deep silt loams) as Block 3 and starkly contrasts the schist gravel soils of our Riesling in Blocks 2 and 4.

Riesling from Block 1 was carefully hand-picked on 24 April followed by whole bunch pressing. The juice was settled for 5 days, then racked and followed by a relatively fast 2 week fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The fermentation was stopped by chilling to balance the high natural acidity with residual sweetness of 59g/L, resulting in the low alcohol of 9.0%. The wine rested on fine lees with minimal processing (no fining or cold stabilisation) before bottling in late August to highlight the delicate Riesling characters.

A wine whose fruit weight subsumes all. The cool April preserved rapier-like acidity, affording vines the hang time to allow their fruit to mature and concentrate. This patient ripening is manifest in texture – full to the point of opulence – as much as it is in the redolent nectarine and mango flavours. The vineyard’s north-facing incline and deep silt soils have pulled their usual trick, yielding a breadth of fruit that consumes both sugar and acid; this wine is a harmonious whole."

95/100 Emma Jenkins, Decanter UK, June 2026 (2025 Vintage)
"From a north-facing block on the original Elms Vineyard, with deep silt loams. Very pale and a little shy initially, then comes a burst of sweet, juicy apple, yellow peach, honeysuckle, rockmelon and limes. Just 10% alcohol, medium-sweet with rich apricot, apple and citrus, a good clean acid line and very long finish. Lots of bright dancing charm at this youthful stage, but Block 1 always ages very smartly, too."

5 Stars & 98/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, February 2024 (2023 Vintage)
"Fine-boned riesling with lime/citrus and wildflower aromas together with impressive purity and power. This really is a thoroughbred riesling that can be enjoyed upon release or carefully cellared for 20-30 years."

Felton Road Wines epitomises the harmony of organic and biodynamic viticulture with a commitment to quality and sustainability. The Felton Road Pinot Noir Bannockburn showcases their dedication to crafting exceptional wines. This vintage reveals a nose of dark roses and violets, offering a transparent and ethereal character. On the palate, it presents savoury notes with lovely fruits and no hint of New World sweetness. The tannins are firm but not harsh, complemented by subtle herbal tones that add freshness and intrigue. It’s a classic expression from their four Bannockburn vineyards.

Similarly, Felton Road's Chardonnay Bannockburn stands out with its pure grapefruit zest, citrus, and stonefruit kernel. The palate balances acid effortlessly, with a clean profile and a pleasing absence of oak, making it a benchmark Chardonnay.

Felton Road's Riesling Bannockburn impresses with brooding aromas of wet stones and stonefruits. It opens with a burst of sweetness tempered by intense stonefruit flavours and crisp acidity, reflecting the uniqueness of their Bannockburn terroir.

Felton Road’s meticulous approach begins with site selection and organic practices. Their four vineyards in Bannockburn, managed with precision and hand care, contribute to wines that express their terroir authentically. The gravity-flow winery and non-interventionalist winemaking methods preserve the true character of each varietal, making their wines both approachable and age-worthy.
