Grenache / Garnacha

One of Spain’s most important varieties, Garnacha (its Spanish name) or Grenache (its French name) thrives on hot, dry conditions, and is one of the world’s most planted grape varieties (due in no small part to its role as main contributor to the GSM blend). Australia is the most important New World Grenache/Garnacha growing region, currently the third most planted red there, behind Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Grenache wines are full-bodied with lovely classic jammy aromas of black cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant, and raspberry. As it ages, you will detect notes of licorice, coffee, black olives and dried meat.
