Winery notes (2026 Vintage)
"Felton Road farms four properties totalling 34 ha in the Bannockburn subregion of Central Otago. Blocks 2 and 4 are located on gravel fans within the Elms Vineyard with deep soils of angular schist gravels.

Riesling from Block 4 of The Elms vineyard was carefully hand-picked, whole bunch pressed, settled for 5-7 days before racking, then fermented with indigenous yeasts. The 2 week fermentation was stopped by chilling when the optimal balance was achieved between the acidity, alcohol and residual sugar (53g/L). Careful winemaking with minimal processing highlights the crisp natural acidity and the Riesling characters are delicately poised in the low alcohol of 9.0%.

As crystalline as the frosty morning during which the fruit was harvested. The bunches landed in the press at 3°C. Harvested by brave souls with numb fingers. A vinous high-wire act – winemaking at pH 2.8 tends to be – flint, saffron and orange blossom notes overlay piquant, lime-green fruit. 53g/L residual sugar so rarely tastes this dry; the sweetness lingers for but a moment before the acidity rushes across the palate, extending the exotic flavours: mango, melon and kaffir. The finish is clean, incisive and incredibly precise."

Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, December 2025 (2025 Vintage)
"This off-dry expression is utterly delicious, aromas and flavours of lime and makrut leaves, very floral, sweet lemon and red apple flesh. The acidity is high delivering a taut contrast to the residual sweetness, a wine in balance from the first taste to the last with flavours of white fleshed pomaceous fruits, citrus skin and peel, flowers, makrut leaves and mineral. Refreshing, lively and what Riesling is all about – instant pleasure, freshness, length and the desire to want more. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2035+."

Felton Road Wines epitomises the harmony of organic and biodynamic viticulture with a commitment to quality and sustainability. The Felton Road Pinot Noir Bannockburn showcases their dedication to crafting exceptional wines. This vintage reveals a nose of dark roses and violets, offering a transparent and ethereal character. On the palate, it presents savoury notes with lovely fruits and no hint of New World sweetness. The tannins are firm but not harsh, complemented by subtle herbal tones that add freshness and intrigue. It’s a classic expression from their four Bannockburn vineyards.

Similarly, Felton Road's Chardonnay Bannockburn stands out with its pure grapefruit zest, citrus, and stonefruit kernel. The palate balances acid effortlessly, with a clean profile and a pleasing absence of oak, making it a benchmark Chardonnay.

Felton Road's Riesling Bannockburn impresses with brooding aromas of wet stones and stonefruits. It opens with a burst of sweetness tempered by intense stonefruit flavours and crisp acidity, reflecting the uniqueness of their Bannockburn terroir.

Felton Road’s meticulous approach begins with site selection and organic practices. Their four vineyards in Bannockburn, managed with precision and hand care, contribute to wines that express their terroir authentically. The gravity-flow winery and non-interventionalist winemaking methods preserve the true character of each varietal, making their wines both approachable and age-worthy.
