Winery notes (2025 Vintage)
"Matua clone Cabernet Franc grown at Paritua in Bridge Pa, Hawke’s Bay. Cabernet Franc was the hardest variety to replace after the Noetzli vineyard we had worked with for the previous four vintages was mothballed, so we were looking for a site that could deliver the same focus on fruit purity and brightness. We picked at a sweet spot to avoid green or overly developed characters, keeping the wine in a juicy, lifted register.
Machine harvested and brought into the winery with skins already starting to soften, so cap management was kept to a minimum to ensure gentle extraction and retain the bright fruit characters. Fermented in a single open-top fermenter, then pressed to seasoned oak for maturation.
Bright, juicy and slightly wild. Bramble, dark berry fruit and plum lead into a savoury edge. A subtle undergrowth character sits underneath, but the wine stays focused on fruit and perfume, with a silky texture and a fresh, long finish. A wine made for a light chill and easy drinking."
91/100 Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review, May 2026 (2025 Vintage)
"Mid-purple. Aromatic and perfumed, this elegantly light cabernet franc contrasts its strawberry fruit with a leafy tobacco and bay leaf herbal note. Crunchy tannins create an impression of chalky boniness on the palate, lifted by bright acidity and a delicate expression which unfolds into a gently savoury finish. Long and flavoursome for its palate weight, this will provide enjoyment over the near-term while it retains freshness."
