Winery notes (NV)
"No.1 Reine Cuvée is a tribute to the family’s Mother and Mémère, Reine Vautrelle Le Brun. The floral pattern is inspired by a precious heirloom ring handed down to grandaughter, her 'petite-fille', Virginie Le Brun.
This classic Méthode Traditionelle blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier has had long term lees ageing and minimal dosage to create a seamless and sophisticated Extra Brut Reserve NV."
18.5/20 Joelle Thomson, drinksbiz Magazine, December 2023/January 2024 (NV)
"Fresh, delicately flavoursome and full-bodied, this new wine from No.1 Family Estate is named in honour of winemaker Daniel Le Brun’s mother, Reine Vautrelle Le Brun. Her love of flowers is echoed on the wine’s label. It is a blend of 50% Chardonnay, 43% Pinot Noir and 7% Pinot Meunier. Extended lees ageing of four years gives the wine its full-bodied weight, which is balanced to stand up to the low dosage of 2.8 grams per litre. Drinks beautifully now and can age superbly for two to three years."
Rated Outstanding & 97/100 Cameron Douglas MS, The Shout Magazine (NV)
"This is a fantastic wine beginning with plush pale golden hues and lemon highlights, leading to a bouquet of white-fleshed orchard fruits and citrus, swathed in a fresh butter brioche autolysis from extended fine lees complexities. Apple blossoms, nut, and honey highlights complete the bouquet. A complex wine touches the palate with a softly textured voluminous mousse and superfine bubble. Nicely weighted with a rounded satin-cream texture, core flavours of oatmeal, citrus, white-fleshed orchard fruits with layers of autolysis and acidity. A delicious wine with a dry, lengthy finish offering perfect drinking today and through the next eight to twelve years."
5 Stars & 97/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2023 (NV)
"Exquisitely composed and styled, showing crunchy apple, lemon pith, sweet pastry and white floral nuances, leading to a brilliantly focused palate exhibiting creamy mouthfeel combined with beautifully pitched acidity, finishing graceful and captivating. Seamless and perfectly proportioned. A blend of 50% Chardonnay, 43% Pinot Noir & 7% Pinot Meunier; matured on lees for 4+ years."
95/100 David Walker Bell, WineFolio.co.nz, November 2024 (NV)
"A Méthode NV wine from Marlborough – a tribute to the Le Brun family’s Mother. The classic champagne blend of Chardonnay (50%), Pinot Noir (43%) and Pinot Meunier (7%). The light golden colour in the glass follows into the perfume, where peach, apricot and citrus mingles with toasted breadcrumb, apple danish and honeysuckle notes. A fizz of fine mousse gives a wonderfully textured entry to a broad palate. An electric acidity lights up flavours of lemon curd, almond and peach melba. There is more texture as a creaminess balances the drive of acidity, adding generosity and elegance into a drawn-out finish of good persistence."
