Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"The family dreamer. A young thirty-something Mencía, with a youthful spirit, carefree, and fun. A good way to discover Mencía is through this young and easy to drink red wine, characteristics that also make it the ideal choice for light conversation. Assemblage of Mencía grapes from our youngest vines from plots of land with their own orientations, exposures, and microclimates. In the glass, it presents a pure and young version of Mencía. A single variety wine destined to represent the authenticity of El Bierzo.
Featuring lovely red dirt smell of the clay, Viernes has cherry-plum fruit laced with dark cooking spices (clove, nutmeg, pepper corn). The palate of soft purple juicy fruit is touched with gentle choc-earth tannin throughout. There's a lovely ringing sweet allspice corralling all and neat soft acid at the back achieves freshness and vitality to close.
The name celebrates Viernes, Friday! In each case of 12 bottles there are 4 different labels celebrating the end of the week: a dancer, a guitar, a jukebox and a jacket."

"Earthy dark-berry aromas on this wine come with rubbery notes and a touch of dry desert herbs. Loud acidity makes for a bright but jangly palate. Flavours of black currant and dark plum are mildly tart and salty. Dry tannins and a peppery aftertaste control a fresh finish."
