We sell a lot of Spanish Tempranillo wines, but it is rare for us to offer one from across the ditch. This is a delicious wee number from the Yalumba team and a bit of a surprise package. Nothing too serious just a great priced quaffing red.
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"Y Series wines are made to freely express their true self and celebrate the qualities that make them unique, just like you. Let Y Series ignite your sense of adventure and discover what it means to be boldly, unapologetically you. Made for lively, feisty, fancy or happy moments, there’s a Y for every why.
Medium ruby in colour with garnet hues. Lots of dark fruits like mulberry, plum and dried date, layered with earthy undertones and subtle characters of clove and oregano. The palate draws you in with mulberry, dark cherry and plum complemented with savoury complexity, dark chocolate and a hint of clove spice. A smooth and lingering finish with cocoa powder tannins."
90/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"Sweetly fruited and inviting, the wine shows dark plum, cherry, olive, and baking spice aromas on the nose. It's succulent and supple in the mouth, offering a silky texture and well-integrated tannins, making it beautifully balanced and immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2028."
88/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"A soft and fruity core with flavours of dark strawberry and plums, some boysenberry then a light earthy quality. Dry, fruity, balanced and well made with fine easy to dissolve tannins and all wrapped in a decent acid line. Well made, balanced and ready to drink from 2025 through 2028."
88/100 Gabrielle Poy, The Real Review, June 2026 (2024 Vintage)
"When you’re in a bottle shop or pub in the sticks, and nothing is jumping out at you, your safest bet is to reach for a bottle of Yalumba Y Series. These wines nearly always deliver at a very sharp price point—like this tempranillo. Dark chocolate and campfire scents mix with dark red cherries on the nose. The core is up-front, juicy and uncomplicated making for an easy drinking red. The play on ripe and sour fruits is a highlight."
