Gold Medal – New World Wine Awards 2024
Probably one of the best loved wines in Yalumba’s range, this is classic Barossa Shiraz. Plums and spice; dark chocolate, vanilla, cherry. Generous and soft with enough tannin to give structure. A very enjoyable wine that delivers on many fronts, not least, value.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Initially soft and inviting on the palate there are plums, chocolate and cinnamon notes. Over time the wine shows itself to be generous and encompassing as it reveals dark fruit, hazelnut, toffee, clove and floral aromas. With a perfectly balanced and silky palate it offers good length and a savoury finish.
Sourced from Barossa vineyards where the vines range from young (approximately 10 – 15 years old) to old (greater than 35 years). They are planted in a diverse range of sites and have slight variations in micro-climates and soil types, including red brown earths, sandy loams or dark clay soils. These variations contribute to the diversity of flavours in Samuel’s Collection Barossa Shiraz."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2023 (2022 Vintage)
"Charming and enticing, the fragrant bouquet shows Black Doris plum, blueberry, violet and hazelnut aromas with a hint of spicy overtone. The palate is equally satisfying with succulent fruit intensity together with velvety texture and silky tannins, finishing persistent and delectable. At its best: now to 2034."
4 Stars Cuisine Australian Shiraz Tasting, June 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"A generous wine with dark plums and blackberry aromas on the nose with good intensity. The palate is medium to almost full with rounded tannins and rich, concentrated fruit flavours. A well-balanced wine with all elements working in harmony."
92/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2023 (2022 Vintage)
"Aromas and flavours of licorice and black currant, toasty vanilla laved wood scents, pepper spice and a natural earth and leather quality. Firm and dry on the palate, youthful with a core of ripe blackcurrant and ark berry fruit flavours, some floral highlights. Acidity sets the backbone of this wine in place with ripe fruit flavours for contrast and depth. Well made with a fairly lengthy finish and offering great drinking from 2023 through 2027+."
