Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"This Pinot Gris is sourced from our iconic Seddon Vineyard on the southern bank of the Awatere River. This is a rich, textural wine with a creamy palate from spending extended time ageing on yeast lees. Aromas of fresh honeycomb intermingle with juicy summer peaches, the fleshy palate is framed by soft but balanced acidity with a lingering, textural finish."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"One of the country's top Pinot Gris, this Awatere Valley wine is estate-grown and partly barrel-fermented (in 2021, 16 per cent of the blend was fermented with indigenous yeasts in seasoned oak barriques; the rest was fermented and lees-aged for six months in tanks). Bright, light yellow/green, the delicious 2021 vintage is an elegant, distinctly cool-climate style, with vibrant stonefruit, pear and lychee flavours, showing impressive delicacy and depth, and a dryish (6.5 grams/litre of residual sugar), finely textured finish. Best drinking mid-2024+."
Gold Medal & No.2 Top New Zealand Pinot Gris – Dish Magazine 2023
"A splash of wild fermentation in older oak barrels and a six-month stint resting on its lees definitely enriched the complexity and deliciousness of this gris."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"Beautifully restrained and elegantly expressed with white flesh nectarine, green pear, fig and subtle flinty nuances on the nose. The palate displays excellent weight and flow, wonderfully complemented by fine texture and vibrant acidity. Fleshy and rounded with a persistent finish."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, August 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"Mineral laden, sophisticated, varietal and enticing bouquet of fresh wet stone and pear d’anjou, apple and white peach laced with a fine lees quality and floral note and just a whisper of dried herb. Delicious on the palate, taut and new with plenty of acidity highlightling flavours of white fleshed orchard fruits and mineral. Balanced and well made with a fine lees and died herb note on a lengthy finish. Best drinking from 2022 through 2026+"
92/100 James Suckling, September 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"Attractive nose of red apples, pears, grapefruits and nutmeg. Rich and spicy with a gently oily texture and full body. Off-dry, but balanced with fantastic freshness and acidity. Sustainable. Delicious now."
