Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"This expression of Pinot Noir is grown on the southern side of the Awatere River in the Seddon Vineyard. It is recognised for producing distinctive red cherry and raspberry flavours with savoury notes of bay leaf. The palate has soft tannins, a juicy linear acidity and culinary herb notes with hints of smooth dark chocolate from the subtle use of French oak.
Summer was dry and mild with Marlborough’s signature high sunshine hours and cool nights delivering fruit in the best possible condition. The early autumn in 2021 provided Marlborough with very stable weather conditions therefore fruit was able to reach optimum physiological and flavour ripeness.- The fruit was impeccably clean and the lower yields meant that the grapes packed a punch in flavour and concentration.
The fruit for this single vineyard wine comes from within the Seddon Vineyard. The river terrace on the southern bank of the Awatere River was planted in 1998. Whilst in a cool climate, this vineyard is protected from the cooler southern breezes resulting in a warmer microclimate.
Hand picked, destemmed into open top stainless steel, hand plunged daily for 18-24 days. 9% new & 81% seasoned french oak. 14 months resting in oak barrels and 9 months settling in stainless steel. No palate fining and minimal filtration."
Rated Outstanding & 95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"Floral and pure fruited bouquet with a seductive ripe black cherry and pomegranate core. Layers of nut and wood spice with vanilla and cashew adding complexity breadth. Youthful, complex and very inviting. A dry wine on the palate with contrasting fleshy-red-berry fruit flavours with fine grained tannins and a backbone of acidity. A complex wine with a fine savoury and dried herb seam offering great drinking from late 2024 through 2033+."
