Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"This elegant Pinot Noir has lifted floral aromatics, with layers of red cherry, cassis and blueberry. The pure fruit flavours are balanced with subtle spice, savoury fruit tannins, texture and juicy acidity.
The soils in the Awatere are complex, encompassing a matrix of shallow to moderately deep silty loams, with pockets of sand, gravel and clay on higher terraces. The sub-region is drier and cooler with plenty of low vigour sites, well suited to Pinot Noir."

"Flavours of black cherry and dark plum, dried herb and a savoury core, flavours of barrel spice and youthful tannins combine with acidity to form a backbone of structure. As the wine opens up and relaxes flavours of black currant and wood smoke emerge to combine with the flavours of plum and cherry to showcase a youthful modern expression with a crunchy texture and lengthy finish. Well made, young and needing some cellar time. Best drinking from 2024 through 2030."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"A beautifully refined expression, showing sweet cherry, floral, thyme and roasted nut characters on the nose with hints of mushroom and clove. It's wonderfully smooth and flowing in the mouth offering fleshy texture and beautifully melded tannins. Gorgeously elegant and complex. At its best: now to 2028."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 (94) Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, September 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"Deep ruby-red, even colour throughout. The nose is softly full and herbaceous, with aromas of thyme and tea leaf entwined with blackberry, strawberry and sweet floral. Medium-bodied, nuances of blackberry and strawberry intermixed thyme, tea leaf, earth and a suggestion of liquorice root. The red and black fruit shows elegance and purity, herbaceous details enrich alongside earthy nuance. The mouthfeel is silky with delicate, supple tannins; lacy acidity lightens up the broody herbaceous elements. This elegant, pretty Pinot Noir shows lovely fruit and herb with depth and a fine-textured mouthfeel. Match with lamb and duck over the next 5+ years. Handpicked, cold-soaked for 5 days, fermented with a small portion of whole bunches to 13.5% alc, aged 10 months in French oak, 12% new oak."

"Bright ruby, the 2021 vintage is a fresh, vigorous, medium to full-bodied red, with good richness of vibrant cherry, plum and spice flavours, a hint of herbs, finely integrated oak, and supple tannins. Full of youthful freshness and drive, it's well worth cellaring to 2024+."

"Prepare for a huge lift of bay leaf, black tea, mixed spice, rhubarb and tamarillo – all things bright and beautiful essentially. In the mouth, it has a red apple and dusty cherry complexity, a creamy mouthfeel and a savoury, spice-driven core. The tannins are softly chewy and display attractive grip and cling and they accentuate and extend its already lengthy finish."
