Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"Hidden Vineyard – southern end of Te Muna Valley, Martinborough, 95-110m above sea level. Vines were planted in 2001. Alluvial soils similar to Martinborough Terrace but heavier soil due to being closer to river. Currently 1896 vines. Our 2024 Pinot is a blend of 2 parcels from our Hidden Vineyard Block – 2/3 is from Dijon / UCD 5 part of vineyard and 1/3 is the Abel portion picked a week later.
What we really enjoy about our vineyard is that it is a much cooler climate site than town (10km away) and the way that this shows through in the fruit ripeness spectrum. We are picking late – often 4 weeks after similar clones of PN are picked around town. There is still that distinctive spice and savouriness that Martinborough Pinot possesses but our site produces Pinots with cooler fruit notes, more bright red cherries, less dark fruit and lovely floral perfume– all reflective of our special site. Our winemaking aims to reflect and embrace these characters – hence no whole bunch, natural yeast fermentation, minimal plunging, 10 months aged in French oak barrels (only 1 and 3 year old barrels used – no new oak) no fining and no filtration."

"Gorgeously ripe and fragrant, the bouquet shows dark plum, wild strawberry, rich floral, clove, and toasted almond characters. It's concentrated and finely flowing in the mouth, offering juicy fruit intensity with fleshy texture, backed by layers of polished tannins, finishing impressively long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2034."
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"The scents of Martinborough soils are part of the core in the bouquet with a ruddy-brown stony soil almost rustic quality, followed by scents of dark plum and dark red strawberry. As the wine opens out in glass the scents of baking spices and a soft smoky complexity begin to emerge adding a frame for the inherent earthy qualities. Youthful, taut and complex on the palate with tannins and acidity grabbing my attention first. There is poise too and as the wine continues to relax and develop over 2 days the balance and longevity potential also develop. This wine will begin to show its best from 2028 through 2034+ Cellar well and it will reward even longer."

"Destemmed fruit naturally fermented in used barrels, displaying lengthy, deep, fragrance nuances, unfolding stony minerals and a natural grip of chewy tannins, enticing an elegant finish."
