The wine that started it all for Hunter's internationally. 1982 was the first vintage of Sauvignon Blanc for Hunters and in 1986 they turned heads in the UK with the 1985 vintage. Over 40 years on and they're still winning plenty of fans and awards both here and around the world.
Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Classically Marlborough, our 2023 Sauvignon Blanc shows ripe passionfruit, lime, and grapefruit notes. Multi layered palate of citrus and some minerality make this wine rich and complex. These flavours and aromas leave a fresh lingering finish on the palate making it a full textured wine with balanced acidity.
Hunter’s Sauvignon Blanc is produced using our very best Estate grown fruit from our Wairau Valley vineyards. This area of Marlborough is famed for producing a ripe, tropical style of Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes were harvested over a three-week period. The juice was pressed off and settled before being fermented in stainless steel tanks. A small portion of the blend was fermented in large French oak barrels to provide texture and complexity. After a brief period of aging on fine lees, the wine was blended, and Estate bottled."

Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"Fresh, fruity, herbaceous, pungent, tropical and an abundance of energy and power. Classic with purity and charm. Fantastic on the palate with acidity that’s salty and salivates, a core of fruit with citrus, white stone fruits and tropical fruit flavours and acidity that pushes the texture and core flavours through the palate seamlessly. Well-made and ready to drink from day of purchase through 2025."
4 ½ Stars Winestate Magazine (2021 Vintage)
"Sharply priced, this full-bodied, sweet-fruited wine was grown in the Wairau Valley and a small portion of the blend was fermented in large French oak barrels. Ripely scented, it is weighty, with strong, tropical fruit flavours, a distinct touch of complexity, balanced acidity and good length."
92/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, October 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"This label commemorates Hunter’s 40th vintage. Crisp and delicately pungent sauvignon blanc with grapefruit, lime, pineapple and passionfruit flavours. A classic Marlborough style making it a fitting choice to celebrate an important birthday."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"Hunter’s fame rests on this wine. The goal is a strong expression of Marlborough fruit – a bell-clear wine with a mix of tropical and searing gooseberry characters. The grapes are sourced from numerous sites in the Wairua Valley, all company owned, and to retain their fresh, vibrant characters they are processed quickly, with some use of indigenous yeasts and lees-aging. The wine is usually at its best between one and two years old. The classy 2021 vintage was mostly handled in tanks, but 5% of the blend was fermented in large French oak casks. Pale and ripely scented, it is full-bodied and sweet-fruited, with impressive intensity of tropical flavours, a touch of complexity, balanced acidity and a long, dry (3 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. A top year."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2020 (2020 Vintage)
"This is intensely aromatic on the nose showing Granny Smith apple, kiwifruit, green rockmelon and lemon zest aromas, leading to a wonderfully flavoursome palate that's juicy and lively. A splendidly expressed sauvignon, offering terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2023."
