Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Our STONE vineyard is composed of gravel and silt layers originally formed after a great flood of the Ngaruroro River in 1867. The river stones absorb and radiate heat on the vines to create concentrated, structured, bold, age-worthy wines."
5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2024 (2021 Vintage)
"A classic Bordeaux-style, this is bold and sturdy with blackcurrant, game, dried herb, fennel and assorted nut flavours, well supported by refined texture and layers of chalky tannins. It’s flavoursome and mouth-filling, while remaining poised and balanced with a sustained, structured finish. At its best: now to 2036."
Rated Outstanding & 95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, June 2024 (2021 Vintage)
"I really like the complexity and power of the bouquet, there’s a sense of urgency without being overdone. Aromas and flavours of black olive and blackberry, Doris plums and chocolate, vanilla and clove spices and toasty oak layer in complexity. Firm and dry with textures from tannins and backbone of acidity for strength and power. An excellent example with length and persistence. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2029+."
5 Stars & 19.0/20 (95) Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, November 2024 (2021 Vintage)
"Deep, full, ruby-red, lighter on the rim. This has an elegant bouquet with aromas of red berry, plum, blackcurrant, spearmint, cedar and an amalgam of spice. Full-bodied, aromas of red berry, plum and blackcurrant entwined with spearmint, dried herbs, nutmeg, cloves, liquorice and cedar. The fruit is concentrated with a rich presence, and intermixed mint and herbs add dimension. Quality oak layer dark, firm, dusty tannins linger with an amalgam of spice to a rich, structured finish. This is an elegant blend with dark fruit and complex layers with power and refinement. Match with braised short ribs and brisket over the next 10 years. 100% fruit from the Gimblett Gravels, a blend of 44% Merlot, 28% Malbec, 24% Cabernet Fran and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, handpicked, fermented naturally to 14.5% alc, aged in French oak for 22 months, 32% new barrels."
