Domaine Thomson was the vision of David Hall-Jones and his wife PM (short for Pui Mun) and encompasses the wine operations in the northern and southern hemispheres.
In 2000 they established a 14 ha vineyard at Lowburn, Central Otago. They also owned a property in Burgundy and in 2013 became the first New Zealanders to own a vineyard in Burgundy producing.
Today the original vision holds firm. PM and her family continue the path she and David began together — one vision, across two hemispheres — crafting wine that reflects the nuances of the terroir and the diversity of the vineyards.
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"Hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed and racked to French oak barrels for 9 months. Aromas of brioche, apple strudel and citrus. Medium to full body with lovely fruit and complexity. Creamy texture with a delicious finish."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, January 2026 (2024 Vintage)
"Gorgeously complex and inviting, the bouquet shows white-fleshed peach, rockmelon, grapefruit, vanilla, and roasted hazelnut aromas. It's equally satisfying in the mouth, delivering excellent weight and rich texture, wonderfully supported by fine acidity, finishing impressively long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2034."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"Ripe, pure fruited bouquet and palate with accents of grapefruit and acidity then apple and mineral stony qualities, apple and vanilla spikes from use of barrel and lees integrations. Dry, medium+ weighted with a vanilla and apple-cream custard mouthfeel, fine tannins and lengthy finish. Well made with best drinking from 2026 through 2030+."
5 Stars & 93/100 Candice Chow, CandiceWineChat.com (2024 Vintage)
"This youthful Chardonnay is packed with pure fruit, elegance and good energy. Generous yet discreet, elevated by spice and seamless acidity. Elegant aromas of Gala apple, lemon sherbet, spiced pear, brioche and delicate spice."
16.5/20 Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, May 2026 (2024 Vintage)
"Butter, pineapple, sweetcorn and melon – a rich, generous, satisfying style with rounded acid and plump body. Attractive cereal notes with feathery texture suggesting lees ageing. Finishes with a toasted-hazelnut note that leaves a savoury aftertaste."
