Organic Vineyard of the Year – New Zealand Organic Wine Awards 2024

Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Complex aromatics of rockmelon, beeswax with green apple and lemon grass. The palate is weighty and textural due to half of the wine being fermented wild in oak barrels. The finish is long, with honeyed cashews and lanolin over a saline minerality. A striking wine that shows a serious, drier side to Chenin Blanc.

Hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. Settled 48 hours then racked 50% to stainless steel tank to ferment cool over 15 days. The balance fermented naturally in old French barriques. RS 7.5 g/L"

Rated Outstanding & 95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, December 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"Fabulous bouquet with crisp green and yellow apple scents, a core of minerality with white stone and pebbles, there’s a leesy complexity and aromas of white flowers and blossom. Delicious on the palate, just dry with a core of fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet – apples then quince and lemon. High acidity ensures freshness and longevity, a wine with medium weight, a lovely mouthfeel and lengthy finish. Classic, new, modern and delicious. A great alternative to Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. Best drinking from 2023 through 2030. A wine that you could also cellar and drink from 2027 through 2037."

Set against the backdrop of the majestic Pisa mountain range, Amisfield is one of Central Otago's largest single estate vineyards. Inspired by childhood holidays in Central Otago, founder John Darby sought to master this breathtaking yet challenging high country, believing it ideal for cool-climate viticulture. After an exhaustive search, he discovered Amisfield Farm, a former merino sheep station, and planted the first vines in 1999. The vineyard thrives in a continental climate with cold winters, hot summers, and low rainfall.

In 2021, Amisfield completed a five-year transition to organic viticulture and was named Organic Vineyard of the Year in 2020 and 2022. Their philosophy is to nurture nature at every step, resulting in wines of exceptional purity, intensity, and vibrancy.

Designed by architect Charlie Nott in 2006, Amisfield's modern winery features a 600-tonne production capacity. Here, winemakers employ a hands-off approach, allowing nature to shape the wines.

Amisfield's organic vineyard produces wines with distinctive regional characteristics. Visitors to the Cellar Door can indulge in tastings of Pinot Noir vintages and a range of white wines, guided by passionate staff eager to showcase the unique flavours of Central Otago.
