The SQM Gimblett Gravels Red (66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc) is the flagship series from Squawking Magpie, sourced from one of Hawkes Bay’s standout vintages and safely cellared at the winery since release. That extra time in bottle has done it no harm. It is showing beautifully now, with freshness, sophistication and the kind of structure that makes Gimblett Gravels reds so compelling.

Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc adding depth and complexity. Think blackcurrant, dark berries, cedar, spice, mocha and savoury earth, with silky yet finely structured tannins carrying through to a long finish.

Serious Gimblett Gravels, beautifully mature and, most importantly, back at a price that makes this an exceptional buy. (Seriously, Google the price at the winery)

"Our Gimblett Gravels fruit was handpicked and gently handled to ensure skins were not torn or seeds crushed as we destemmed and moved the grapes to our small fermenting vats. We allowed the natural yeast on the grape skins to carry out the ferment and hand plunged as required to ensure the ripe fruit flavours and texture were balanced by fine structural tannins. Limited edition, individually numbered bottles."
