Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Sourced from 50% Southern Valleys, 25% Upper Wairau, and 25% Ward vineyards. The grapes were hand harvested and gently de-stemmed before undergoing fermentation by both naturally occurring wild vineyard yeasts and cultured varieties. 30% whole bunch clusters were added to the ferment for an increased lift in aromatics and structure. The resulting wine was aged in both new (25%) and seasoned French barrels for 11 months. Unfined and unfiltered.

Dark crimson in colour, this wine has a bouquet of lifted floral aromas of violets and cassis that mingle with dark fruits and a savoury earthiness. The palate is brooding and meaty, has firm structure, velvety tannins and is interlaced with crunchy red fruits and cherry cola flavours. This tightly knit wine, while young, will age gracefully and reward cellaring."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2016 (2015 Vintage)
"It is sweetly fragrant on the nose displaying dark cherry, plum, dried herb and clove characters with nuances of earthy mushroom and floral. The palate is beautifully weighted and supple, and offers excellent fruit intensity as well as elegant savoury complexity. The wine is elegantly framed by fine, polished tannins, leading to a lengthy, finely dry finish. At its best: now to 2020."
4 Stars & 18.0+/20 Raymond Chan, August 2016 (2015 Vintage)
"Even ruby-red colour with purple hues, lighter on the edge. The nose is softly full and layered with complex aromas of dark-red berry fruits entwined with dark herbs and whole bunch stalk notes. Nuances of dark raspberries, red liquorice and ethereal dark red florals unfold with aeration. Medium-bodied, softly rich flavours of dark-red berry fruits are melded with dark herbs, savoury whole bunch stalk notes and red liquorice, and gently fill the palate. The mouthfeel is soft-textured with supple tannin extraction and balanced by fresh, lacy acidity. This has a gently packed, harmonious heart, and the wine carries to a soft, lingering finish of dark raspberries and herbs. This is a softly rich and supple Pinot Noir with flavours of dark raspberries and red liquorice complexed by whole bunch stalk and herb complexities. Serve with wild duck and pork over the next 5+ years. Clone 5, 115, 667, 777 and 10/5 fruit, 50% from Southern Valleys, 25% Upper Wairau and 25% Ward, hand-picked and fermented partially by indigenous yeasts with 30% whole clusters to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 25% new French oak. 1,000 cases made."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"The 2015 vintage is a regional blend, hand-picked and matured for 11 months in French oak barrels (25 per cent new). Full ruby, it is mouthfilling, savoury and fresh, with vibrant plum, cherry, herb and spice flavours, showing good complexity. Still very youthful, it's worth cellaring to 2018+."
