96/100 & Gold Medal – Decanter World Wine Awards, October 2017
A deliciously dry style and a staff favourite here at Vino Fino. A more highly awarded Prosecco would be hard to find. Masottina Prosecco Brut was judged No.1 Sparkling Wine from over 600 entries from 20 countries at the 16th annual Effervescents Du Monde 2018 held in Dijon, France. This comes on top of a 96 point Gold Medal score at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2017 so we're obviously well and truly into the seriously good territory here.
"A very classy Prosecco". These are the words of Steven Spurrier, one of the world’s leading wine critics and Chairman Emeritus of the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA), speaking of Masottina’s Prosecco DOC Treviso Brut which received a Gold Medal in the prestigious competition organized by one of the most authoritative international publications dedicated to wine, with a score of 96/100. An important achievement for a Prosecco DOC and for the Dal Bianco family, among Italy’s most distinguished representatives of this winemaking art.
According to Steven Spurrier, Masottina’s Prosecco DOC Treviso Brut possesses a “very intense, deep nose with notes of pear, peach, elderflower and almond. This flows onto a mineral-drenched palate with touches of eucalyptus. Great length and depth of flavour."
The unique character of Prosecco Brut DOC Treviso comes from Masottina’s careful manufacture protocol. In the Ogliano winery the use of gravity flow winemaking allows the extraction of a free run juice of exceptional purity, without the use of mechanical pressing. This is just one example of the care and attention that the Dal Bianco family has always invested in its quest to bring out the full potential of all Masottina’s proseccos, revealing the elegant and modern character expressed by one of the world’s most extraordinary wine districts."
No.1 Champion Sparkling Wine, Effervescents Du Monde 2018
Effervescents Du Monde is a qualitative competition for the Best sparkling Wines in the World, held in Dijon, 2018 was the 16th year of this annual competition. 600 + sparkling wines entered, from more than 20 countries with more than 100 international expert judges, including 50% from outside France. 'Elegant, fresh and sincere. Reminiscent of citrus fruit: lemons, grapefruit, green mandarins and limes. The aroma then gathers into almost palpable hints of apples; clear at first but with surprising varietal notes that give the freshness of green apples and the soft sweetness of quinces. It ends up with light hints of mint and fresh unripe almonds'.
Winery notes (NV)
"Delicate straw yellow in colour, enhanced by fine, lingering perlage. Golden Delicious apples, pink grapefruit and limes are clearly distinguished on the nose; to these are added the more delicate hints of pears and plums, together with wisteria flowers. Soft and silky, in the mouth it develops the pleasant freshness of fruit straight off the tree."
