Winery notes (2014 Vintage)
"Our 2014 Runholder Pinot Noir is crafted from our estate vineyards in the Martinborough Terrace. It offers flavours of rich, dark cherries, spice, and hints of earthiness. A velvety texture is accented by subtle oak on the long finish."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2016 (2014 Vintage)
"The bouquet is just gorgeous: aromas of dark cherry, plum, game, clove and floral with nuances of cedar and dried herbs. The palate is concentrated and wonderfully fruited, while remaining elegant and poised. A delectable pinot offering fabulous fruit intensity, enhanced by seductive complexity. At its best: now to 2022."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 Raymond Chan, February 2016 (2014 Vintage)
"Dark, deep ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is refined and aromatic with ripe, dark red berry and cherry fruit unfolding ethereal dark-red and violet florals, and nuances of dark herbs and mineral detail. This is soft in expression with a tightly bound heart. Medium-bodied, the fruit flavours of dark red cherries, berries and plums are lifted by violet aromatics and flow with sweetness and richness. The mouthfeel is harmonious and silky-smooth, with very fine, flowery tannins and balanced acidity providing a refined line. The flavours carry seamlessly to a fragrant, ethereal finish of red fruits and florals. This is a soft, rich and aromatic Pinot Noir with a harmonious and seamless-flowing mouthfeel and fine-grained tannins. Match with duck and pork dishes over the next 5-6 years. Clones Abel, 6, 10/5, 777, 115, 667, 5 and 13, 60% from the ‘Sutherland’, 6% from the ‘Todd’ and 34% from the ‘McLeod’ blocks of the ‘Home’ vineyard, fermented with 5% whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 24% new French oak. 1,555 dozen made."
4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper (2014 Vintage)
"This is the middle-tier label. The 2014 vintage is deep ruby, floral, rich and supple, with good density of cherry, spice, plum and dried-herb flavours and a finely textured, very harmonious finish. An elegant wine, with a sense of youthful vigour, it's well worth cellaring. Fine value."
90/100 Decanter (2014 Vintage)
"Rich and moderately weighty Pinot with a superabundance of damson, red plum, spice, cherry/berry and smoky oak flavours. There is plenty of oak and sweet fruit before the tannins kick in on the structured palate. Finishes lengthily."
