"If you’ve ever enjoyed an early nineties St Hugo, or indeed a 90s John Riddoch you’ll be wanting to add some of this wine to your cellar. It just sings Coonawarra Cabernet. Very dark red, it smells of pencil shavings, grilled capsicum, eucalypt, red earth, blackberry, blackcurrant, cocoa and expensive wooden furniture. Distinctive. The palate follows suit with a style completely shaped by tannin – everything just hangs off those sturdy, thick grained, muscular tannins. It’s a sturdy, ripe, oaky and firmly acidic wine, but gee it has long term swagger. That acid is sharp, the edges are very brutish, but this has that evenness and everlasting choc mint of the finest Coona cabs. It’s maybe a little too warm and ripe to be as sublime as the ’86 John Riddoch, but gee there is glory here. For the cellar, a lock. Don’t drink it now though. Drink: 2020-2032."

"​Very dark, deep, near impenetrable black-red colour at the heat, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is very elegantly concentrated and refined with beautifully ripened blackcurrant and blackberry fruit with cassis liqueur and a subtle amalgam of mint herb and fragrant dark-red florals, unveiling black minerals and pencilly oak. Full-bodied, the palate has vibrant and succulently rich flavours of ripe blackberries, blackcurrants and cassis liqueur forming a concentrated core. The palate reveals subtle mint herb, black minerals and complexing pencilly oak. The fruit sweetness is enhanced by fine, lacy acidity, and the wine flows along a very fine-textured line with flowery tannin extraction, carrying to a very long, lingering finish of black fruits and minerals. This is a beautifully rich and succulent Cabernet Sauvignon with ripe blackberry, blackcurrant and cassis flavours on a fresh palate with very refined tannin structure. Match with roast lamb and beef dishes over the next 8-10+ years. Cabernet Sauvignon fruit from Coonawarra fermented to 14.4% alc., the wine aged 21 months in predominantly new French oak hogsheads, and a small portion of American oak."

"​Here’s a gorgeously glossy, eucalypt and herb-scented little star that’s classic Coonawarra through and through.  Blackcurrant, white pepper, smoky, cedar notes, loads of florals and a burst of black olive makes itself known on the finish.  It’s a masculine, complex example that’s leathery, earthy and definitely drinking nicely now."

"​Blackcurrant, redcurrant, aniseed and nut packed chocolate here, with some tobacco and spiced oak. Medium bodied, minerally feel with appealing clean acidity, red and black fruits and cedar oak in support. Tannin is fine, but pulls the finish just a little too dry, with a kind of coffee bean crunch on exit, which gives me pause for its future. Otherwise, all excellent and very appealing."
