Probably one of the best loved wines in Yalumba’s range, this is classic Barossa Shiraz. Plums and spice; dark chocolate, vanilla, cherry. Generous and soft with enough tannin to give structure. A very enjoyable wine that delivers on many fronts, not least, value.
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"Deep, inky crimson with a vibrant purple rim. Aromas of blackberry and ripe plums layered with brown spices including clove and nutmeg. Hints of blackcurrant and milk chocolate intertwine with notes of caramel and white pepper, adding depth and complexity. Rich and generous, the palate flows with bright, juicy fruit mirroring the nose, dark berries and plums wrapped in suede-like tannins lend a velvety texture. Soft acidity keeps the wine lively and balanced, leading to a long, plush finish.
Sourced from Barossa vineyards where the vines range from young (approximately 10 – 15 years old) to old (greater than 35 years). They are planted in a diverse range of sites and have slight variations in micro-climates and soil types, including red brown earths, sandy loams or dark clay soils. These variations contribute to the diversity of flavours in Samuel’s Collection Barossa Shiraz. Matured for 10 months in French and Hungarian hogsheads, 12% new oak."

"The wine offers excellent fruit purity with complexity, presenting Black Doris plum, blueberry, rich floral, clove, and toasted almond characters. It's wonderfully weighted on the palate with supple texture and elegant tannins, making it harmonious and flavoursome. At its best: now to 2034."

"Deep ruby-red with a purple core, even colour throughout. The nose is full, with aromas of dark plum, ripe blackberry, eucalyptus, coffee bean and spice. Full-bodied, aromas of dark plum and blackberry entwined with eucalyptus, coffee bean, dried herb and spice. The fruit is concentrated and enriched by oak spice, coffee beans, and fine-grained tannins that linger to a rich, satisfying finish. This classic Barossa Shiraz shows elegance and power. Match with ribeye steak and lamb roast over the next 10 years."

"Great colour and bouquet with scents of dark plum and blackberry, a core of black currant with violets and spices, some peppercorn and dried clay. There’s a synergy too with the smoky wood tones and baking spices from the use of oak. Dry, fleshy and fruity core framed by tannins and acidity delivering some tension and lots of mouthfeel. Well made with a persistent red berry fruits and spices profile, texture and decent length. Well made with best drinking from day of purchase through 2030+."

"Medium garnet in hue. Easter egg chocolate, red currant and raspberry in that spectrum, firmed up with blackberry and 5 Spice. Oak is sweet, but not dominating. Fleshy and fruity. There’s good support and spice from the oak, with white pepper piquancy from the fruit. Tannins are tight, ripe and firm, allowing for ready consumption. Lingering dark yeasty, savoury elements provide balance. Top value."
