Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"From the Wirra Wirra estate in front of the winery, just outside the McLaren Vale township. Both varieties are planted next to each other on the southern tip of the block. Biodynamically and organically farmed, the soil type is alluvial clay over Pirramimma sandstone and sits at 70m elevation.
Aromas of dried blueberry, black plum and black tea unfold alongside hints of dry roasted almonds, thyme and delicate violet. The palate is layered with anise, cardamom and Daintree dark chocolate, supported by dried thyme, cherry stone and fine, dark chocolate tannins. Vibrant blue and red fruits bring freshness and energy. Touriga was matured for five months in an old oak foudre and Tempranillo was matured for 12 months in old French hogsheads and barriques."
95/100 Ned Goodwin MW, James Halliday Wine Companion, July 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"An incisive, polished and immensely powerful wine. A phalanx of dark fruits, spice of all types, anise, violet and molten dark rock is sheathed in salubrious oak drawn tight by a belt of reductive tension. Crafted impeccably, the sweetness oozing over the structural latticework with air. The finish is as long as it is attractively salty, as if tapenade has been swooshed over the tongue by the last bite of tannin."
