5 Stars & 95/100 Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review, March 2025 (1995 Vintage)
"This bodega which dates back to 1860 (making it the 6th oldest in Rioja) but lacked an international reputation until new owners looked beyond Spain. The Cosecha series is for wines which have been released from their cellars fully mature, and this particular vintage is head and shoulders above the standard of the usual wines in their range. I have seen it sell at a significant discount because of its relative obscurity, and could be a relatively good buy, especially for a fully developed fine wine which really isn’t a million miles away from mature Bordeaux.
A developing garnet with bricking at the rim. A fully developed wine with floral and stony mineral complexity now to the fore, underpinned by still-grainy tannins and shaved coconut oak flavours on the elegant, layered but well-balanced palate. A bright acidity maintains tension as the blackcurrant and walnut flavours hold through to the long, refined finish where an intriguingly Vouvray-like oyster-shell note resounds. This is at its apogée, not a blockbuster but a wine of finesse. Deliciously captivating."
5 Stars & 97/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, December 2024 (1995 Vintage)
"A magnificent offering, the alluring bouquet shows dark berry, fine leather, cake spice, orange peel, potpourri, and toasted nut aromas. The concentrated palate is both opulent and stylish with an outstanding weight and expansive mouthfeel, wonderfully framed by juicy acidity and grainy tannins. Multi-layered and symphonic, this is sensually satisfying with loads of complex flavours. At its best: now to 2030."

"An excellent opportunity to taste and absorb the DNA from 1995 is rare indeed in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Be sure to give the wine a few minutes to open up once the cork is pulled. Aromas and flavours of fallen leaves and sweet rose, plums and licorice, spiced black tea and crumbled clay soils. Still some tautness with tannins and acidity engaging, that said they are integrating well and frame the fruits, flavours and overall style of the wine well. A dry, lengthy and complex finish with suggestions of coffee bean and vanilla, old leather and vintage car upholstery memories. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2030."
