Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"The William Randell range of wines were created in honour of our family ancestor – the esteemed pioneer William Richard Randell (1824 – 1911). The wines are sourced solely from grapes grown on our estate vineyards. Wines in this range are only made in exceptional vintages.
This classic Barossa Shiraz is a deep, rich, and powerful example of the region’s speciality variety. The colour is a dark, almost impenetrable red-purple, with vibrant red highlights at the rim of the glass. The nose is lifted and intense, with complimentary blackberry, black cherry and spice and a gentle smoky oak complexity. The palate is dense and opulent with flavours of ripe mulberry, berry compote and liquorice, paired with well-integrated oak notes. The tannins are savoury and persistent, adding structure and depth to the wine, while the finish is plush and spicy, leaving a lasting and memorable impression."

"This impressive and manicured 2019 Shiraz William Randell has class written all over it. Ripe and concentrated with black cherry, dark earthy tones and ham bone aromas wrapped up in a generous dose of sweet oak. Luscious levels of flavour and oak follow with well-judged tannins providing a complete package to enjoy over the next decade."

93/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, January 2023 (2018 Vintage)
"This is about as old-school as they come, style-wise. It only saw 40% new oak (all of it American) but it smells and tastes drenched in resiny vanilla. The fruit within is svelte, warm and ripe without being over-the-top; it’s syrupy and seductive. Brandied plums, saltbush, blackberry and gum leaf characters do all the talking here. Tannin is fully integrated and despite its volume, so too is the oak. There’s little doubting the quality here, in its style."
93/100 JamesSuckling.com, December 2021 (2018 Vintage)
"This has impressive freshness of blue fruit and cola-like spices with blackberries and forest wood, as well as a blue-floral edge and some plum cake. The palate has a very vivid feel with such intense, fleshy fruit-presence that carries a long, succulent and flavourful finish. Impressively fresh. Drink over the next decade."

"A full on, volume turned up to 11 kind of Barossa shiraz. It’s loud and proud, ripe and bold. It’s the full she-bang of ripe Barossan fruit starting with blood plums, blackberry, chocolate, mocha, leather aromas. And spice, there’s a world of spice here. Sweet, dark fruits, woodsy oak fill the mouth, intense and concentrated and just a touch hot. Roaming throughout is a thread of mint/eucalypt which I find very attractive and enticing. It’s a personal thing. Some wine judges don’t like to see too much eucalypt, the feeling is it can hide/disguise the fruit. I like to see it in balance – such as here – because it speaks of the Australian landscape, where the grapes come from. It’s all part of the complex mix of scents, flavours, textures and feel of this wine. Very Barossan."

"This is a winter-warming crowd pleaser for the big red lovers in your life. It offers upfront aromas of plums, blackberry and blueberry with undercurrents of baking spice, ground pepper, vanilla bean and chocolate. There's a sweet oak bass note. The mouthfeel is juicy fruited and silky textured with a lift of acidity and a tug of supple, savory tannins. Drink now with protein or until 2030."
