A lovely offer here on Saint Clair's top Pinot Gris. Despite popular belief, Pinot Gris benefits nicely from a few years in the bottle, as evident here.

Elegant, fresh and luscious with layers of yellow apple, baked pear and spice. This is a dry style Pinot Gris with a silky texture and persistent length that is in a beautiful drinking window right now.

Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Lifted aromas of pear, stone fruit and florals laced with subtle spice. Elegant, fresh and luscious on the palate with layers of yellow apple, baked pear and spice. This is a dry style Pinot Gris with a silky texture and persistent length.

Fruit for this wine was sourced predominantly from an estate owned vineyard located in the Waihopai Valley, part of Marlborough’s Southern Valleys sub-region. Just east of the Omaka River, the soils comprise of stony, sandy loam, ideal conditions to produce expressive and intense Pinot Gris fruit."

5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"Wonderfully complex and enticing, the bouquet shows baked apple, golden peach, warm spice and poached pear aromas with a hint of flinty overtone. The palate displays generous texture and plump mouthfeel, wonderfully structured by vibrant acidity, making it mouth-watering and flavoursome. At its best: now to 2026."

92+/100 Cameron Douglas MS, March 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"A rounded, fuller and blossoming bouquet with scents of pear and white peach, baked and fresh apple then a white spice and lees complexity. A silky rounded texture touches the palate first then a combination of white fleshed fruits and the acid line engage the senses simultaneously. Plenty of acidity and freshness with flavours of pears and apple, lemon and white peach. There’s also a hint of dried herb adding breadth. Balanced, well made, generous and ready to drink from 2024 through 2027."

Saint Clair Family Estate is a pioneering winery in Marlborough, New Zealand, owned by Neal and Judy Ibbotson. The couple began their viticultural journey in 1978 by supplying grapes to other companies, but in 1994, they established their own winery to showcase the quality of their vineyards. The estate is named after the Sinclair family, who were the first settlers on the land. Saint Clair's mission is to produce world-class wines by combining Neal's expertise in viticulture, the unique Marlborough terroir, and a talented winemaking team.

The business remains a family affair, with the Ibbotsons' three children, Tony, Sarina, and Julie, involved in design, sales, and marketing, respectively. A strong focus on viticulture is central to their success, with Jarrah Prior leading the viticultural team. Since their inaugural vintage in 1994, which earned multiple medals, the winery has consistently received international acclaim and a reputation for producing high-quality wines that exceed customer expectations.
