Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"This wine highlights the suitability of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz to some of the driest regions in the Barossa. The fruit is forked into our 1880’s wooden Bagshaw de-stemmer before fermenting in open slate tanks. Our 1890’s Robinson Basket Press slowly squeezes the remaining juice from the grapes, before the individual components are left to mature in seasoned oak casks. When the final blend comes together, layers of soft, savoury, spicy flavours are emerging and will continue to develop with a handful more years in bottle."
93/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, October 2024 (2021 Vintage)
"All things considered, this is the value pick of the Rockford range. Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro. It’s from Moppa, Ebenezer and Kalimna, despite the name. This is, I think, easily the best release of Moppa Springs to date. It has perfume, almond biscuit, ripe red fruits, spice, iodine, vanilla and dried mint. Medium-bodied, kind of juicy, but keeps itself tight and refined, tannin is fine with something of a graphite character, and the acidity is fresh and so well integrated. There’s a curry leaf character here too, which I really like, and the finish is bright and long. It’s a delightful wine. So nicely done. Touch and go for 95 points really."
