Winery notes (NV)
"A sparkling wine exuding elegance and finesse. Pale yellow with a bouquet of Royal gala apple and hints of lime and brioche. On the palate, this is flirtatious and moreish. Enhanced by an invigorating cool, creamy acidity. Focused, cool and crisp with beautiful balance and length.

This wine is from our Organic, Biodynamic Certified Estate vineyard located in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago. The vineyard was planted in 1998 after careful site selection. The soils on the beautiful north facing slope are Waenga fine sandy loam and Letts steepland with an elevation of 217 – 264 metres, on 44.55° south.

Cuvee Hand-picked, 8th to 14th March 2016. A selected blend of 62% Pinot Noir and 38% Chardonnay. Bottle fermented and aged on lees. Riddled and disgorged by hand from early 2018 onwards at Quartz Reef. The winemaking was very much in keeping with the traditional practices of the Old World. The winemaker, Rudi Bauer, has combined these techniques, and his own personal understanding, to create this wine."

95/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, December 2017 (NV)
"Incredible intensity, inward concentration, a knife edge of acidity in finely wrapped layers of toastiness, marzipan, brioche with a sleek, lean profile of green apple and citrus. Fine, fine bubbles add dimension and freshness. Aside its precision, it’s gorgeous to drink, refreshing the palate with each sip, leaving lingering detail of the presence of the wine. Insanely good drinking. It’s fine wine personified. Kudos here."

Yvonne Lorkin, June 2017 (NV)
"New Zealand’s largest quartz rock deposit looks a bit like an underground reef, and it sits directly below Quartz Reef’s vineyards in the sub-region of Bendigo.  This biodynamically-grown, classically-styled fizz is a blend of pinot noir and chardonnay sourced from both Bendigo and a small patch of vines in Gibbston and it’s one of the finest in the land.  Hints of lemon, elderflower, cashew and apple give it elegance and all-round awesomeness."

5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2017 (NV)
"Made predominantly from pinot noir, this is a gorgeous single vineyard offering matured on lees for two years. Inviting aromas of white floral, oatmeal and lemon peel lead to a beautifully weighted palate that is elegant and flavoursome at the same time. The wine is finely textured and persistent, brilliantly supported bright acidity."

5 Stars & 18.5+/20 Raymond Chan, July 2018 (NV)
"Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour with pale green-gold hues on the rim, the bubbles very fine and moderately persistent The nose is full and up-front with bold and accessible aromas of yellow stonefruits melded with good intensity of fresh, bready-yeasty autolysis, the aromatics forming a deep core with presence and a hint of minerals. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is elegantly presented with a finely concentrated core of white and yellow stonefruits entwined with restrained bready-yeasty autolysis. The fruit is rich and is complexed by a firm thread of bready elements at the core, and the wine flows along a very fine-textured phenolic line. The effervescence adds a gentle creaminess, which carries to a rich and succulent, lingering finish with soft acidity. This is a beautifully balanced method traditionnelle with stonefruit and bready-yeasty complexities on a creamy palate. Serve as an aperitif and with seafood over the next 2-3 years. A blend of 62% Pinot Noir and 38% Chardonnay, hand-picked fruit from the 2016 vintage, fermented to 12.5% alc. and a dosage of 6 g/L RS, the wine spending 24 months on lees, disgorged early 2018. Certified BioGro organic and Demeter biodynamic. Lot L2016."

4 Stars Cuisine Sparkling Tasting, November 2017 (NV)
"Biodynamically grown in the Bendigo sub-region, this wine’s pinot noir component (63% of the blend) is immediately evident in its bready, dried fruit scents. It opens up beautifully in the mouth, trailing citrus and mineral notes, but never straying from a well-defined path. “Great line and length,” opined John Belsham."
