Peregrine wines are named in honour of New Zealand’s endemic falcon (Karearea in Maori), a bird that combines both power and finesse, the essence of Peregrine’s range of wines. None more so than this impressive Pinot Noir which has gone through somewhat of a resurgence in recent vintages. This can be attributed to amongst other things, vine age, a switch to organic principles and clearly a greater understanding of site and winemaking, with judicious use of oak and considered whole bunch elements attributing to a Central Otago Pinot Noir of the highest quality.

"Expressive and layered with vibrant wildberry and rose petal aromatics, and hints of delicate spice. The smaller berries of this vintage have resulted in concentrated dark berry fruit flavours, subtle dried herb, and a finely structured palate with great aging potential.

Purity, elegance combine with texture, concentration and length. A beautiful wine that reflects our commitment to organic winegrowing on the three sub regions that contribute to our Pinot Noir. We've timed the release of this wine so you can enjoy it now, or allow to age.

Organically certified Central Otago Pinot Noir – Peregrine Estate Bendigo (70%) and Pisa (30%) sub regions. Up to 20% whole bunch fermentation on selected fruit parcels. Fermented in open top fermenters, mainly pumped over and only plunged during the peak of ferment. Drained and pressed to French Oak barriques. 11 months on French oak, including 22% new oak."

"An attractive nose of black cherry, blackberry jam and spice, lifted with redder fruit and floral notes. The palate is supple and fruit-rich with good carry and fine, powdery tannins that give a firm, elegant frame. Lovely mid-palate flow and good build and, given the excellent year, this will certainly benefit from further time in bottle. An equal blend of fruit from Peregrine’s Bendigo and Pisa vineyards. Established in 1998, the family-owned estate’s striking Gibbston winery emulates the shape of a falcon’s wing. Organic."

"Dark cherry, cocoa, thyme, a little rhubarb, boot polish, and dried flower perfume. Medium-bodied, quite plush, lots of plum and cherry, a spicy note with some orange peel bitterness, sooty tannin grip, with a choc-nut finish of good length. It’s a robust style, though it does deliver plenty of flavour. Good."
