Winey notes (2021 Vintage)
"Deep, saturated ruby with purple hues. The bouquet is expressive and layered, offering ripe blackberry, plum and black cherry intertwined with violets, cocoa, sweet spice, and subtle hints of graphite and toasted oak. On the palate, concentrated dark fruits – blackcurrant, mulberry, and damson – are balanced by fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity with undertones of mocha, clove, and a smoky mineral character, adding depth and structure. The mid-palate is plush yet poised, showing impressive fruit purity before a long, persistent finish of dark chocolate, spice, and a savoury, stony edge.
This wine is a natural partner for slow-braised lamb shoulder, beef short ribs, or a classic roast with all the trimmings. Its structure and depth also make it an excellent match for aged hard cheeses, wild mushroom dishes, and richly spiced stews.
100% Gimblett Gravels Malbec harvested from a particularly stony rift on our estate grown vineyard. After a spring with few frost events. the growing season saw mild summer days and cool nights with brief rain. The lead up to harvest was cool with refreshing winds and corresponding rainfall that kept the vineyards green and with solid canopies. Harvested mid-March, 2021.
The wine was predominantly fermented in closed stainless steel fermenters, then aged in French Barriques for 24 months in a mixture of new and seasoned oak to soften mouthfeel, and add weight and complexity."
Gold Medal – Dish Magazine Tasting Panel, 2026 (2021 Vintage)
"Gloriously dense and youthful, this vibrant Malbec bursts with ripe blueberry, dark plum and a gorgeous violet flourish. Charred oak and dried herbs add elegant complexity, while the palate is rich, mouth filling and supremely confident. Supple yet structured tannins cradle a juicy, concentrated core, and the acid drive keeps everything lively through to a long, chewy, deeply satisfying finish."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, June 2026 (2021 Vintage)
"A lovely wine with core flavours of dark plums and chocolate, quite meaty too with a roasted red meats and wood spice qualities, then violets and blackberry flavours. A dry wine with very good weight and mouthfeel, firm tannins and a backbone of acidity framing flavours of dark berries, stony soils, wood smoke and tension. Well made with medium+ length; best drinking from 2028 through 2034+."
