Here's a great offer on a top Waipara Pinot Gris. Very low cropping fruit has given the wine great concentration. Mount Brown Estates Grand Reserve is one of the better Pinot Gris we have tried recently and at this deal price one worth stocking up on.
Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"This wine has great concentration with a fresh mineral quality giving the wine lift and elegance. The aroma is delicate with ripe pear and apple and a subtle floral spice. The palate has beautiful balance with fine acidity and texture.
The grapes were machine harvested, pressed to tank and cold-settled. Clear juice was racked off and then inoculated with selected yeast strains. Fermentation was in stainless steel with cooling control for a fruit driven style. Fermentation was stopped early to leave some residual sugar (10g). The wine spent four months on yeast lees before blending."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"Gorgeously fruited and complex, the bouquet shows Nashi pear, citrus peel, rockmelon and warm spice notes, followed by a concentrated palate delivering terrific weight and richness. Wonderfully textured and mouthfilling. At its best: now to 2028."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"A bouquet of concentration, variety and spice with aromas of white nectarine and pear, red apple flesh and sweet meyer lemon. A silky smooth texture touches the palate with equal impact from flavours that reflect the nose. A white pepper spice and white nectarine flavours is accentuated through the acid line then flavours of other white fleshed fruits and citrus fold into the spectrum laid out on the palate. Balanced and well made with best drinking from late 2023 through 2026."
Buy of the Week & 93/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, April 2024 (2023 Vintage)
"A ‘peaches and cream’ wine in both texture and taste with apricot, pear and honeysuckle flavours. Made in an off-dry style, I think it would have been even better as a dry wine."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper, February 2024 (2023 Vintage)
"Offering top value, the powerful 2023 vintage was matured on its yeast lees for four months. Bright, light lemon/green, it is fragrant and weighty, with rich, ripe, peachy, gently spicy flavours, showing very good delicacy and vigour, and an off-dry (9 grams/litre of residual sugar), finely poised finish. Already drinking well, it should be at its best 2025+."
