Only produced in outstanding vintages (there is no 2022 or 2023), Mount Brown Estates Grand Reserve is a Chardonnay of impressive power and class. This Chardonnay packs a flavour punch – ripe grapefruit peel, savoury smoky flavours on a mouth-filling palate. We are fortunate indeed to be able enjoy a locally produced Chardonnay of this quality at what can only be described as a 'bargain price'. A world class Chardonnay full of personality.

Rated Outstanding & 95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"A distinctive bouquet with many familiar scents of Chardonnay from yellow stone fruits to nut and spices of oak. There’s also a youthful flinty reductive quality adding complexity and breadth. On the palate a weighty smooth textured expression with a core of ripe stone fruit and citrus flavours laced with oak, plenty of acidity and fine tannin texture both adding lengthy and complexity. Well made, youthful and new with best drinking from late 2024 through 2029."

5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"This is gorgeously complex and engaging on the nose, showing ripe stone fruit, baked fig, hazelnut and brioche characters with a flinty overtone. The palate displays excellent weight and richness, while remaining refined and poised with terrific structure and length. Wonderfully harmonious and balanced with layers of delectable flavours. At its best: now to 2031."

4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"The powerful, fleshy 2021 vintage was handled for 18 months in oak barrels. Bright, light yellow/green, it is weighty, with rich, youthful stonefruit flavours, gently seasoned with toasty oak, excellent complexity and harmony, balanced acidity and a slightly creamy texture. Already highly enjoyable, it should be at its best mid-2024+."

  • Mount Brown Estates is located in the foothills of Waipara Valley's Mount Brown, in the North Canterbury wine region.

  • From truly humble beginnings (a small abandoned vineyard overgrown with waist-high weeds), Tony Rutherford and his daughter Catherine Keith have since turned their once-daunting vision into reality, now boasting three award-winning vineyards and a winery.

  • Mount Brown Estates keeps their whole process—from grape to bottle—in-house, to be able to ensure desired quality standards. This was made possible when they built their winery and bottling line on the Lime Loader vineyard in 2013.

  • The foundation for their success is built on their gold medal-winning Riesling and Pinot Noir.

  • A wide-ranging recognition is increasingly coming from their Pinot Gris, which is perfectly suited to the North Canterbury terroir.
