The 2021 release of Main Divide Rosé from the Donaldson Family will get you excited, it certainly did it for us. Full of energy, bursting with flavour and delivered on a beautifully textured palate with drive and tension. It's a game changer!
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Carefully selected grapes from a unique assemblage of complementary varieties were harvested to make this wine. The free run juice was given a small amount of skin contact to add some colour. Fermentation was carried out in stainless steel vats at a cool temperature to retain varietal purity and freshness, with the wine being bottled shortly after.
Upon release it has an alluring pink hue. The bouquet is vibrant and bright, with aromas of red currant, strawberry, and peach, melded with tropical notes of guava and melon, and a hint of citrus blossom. In the mouth it is dry and finely textured, with a core of lively and refreshing minerality. The complementary varieties ensure the wine remains fleshy and supple, while also adding aroma and structure."
93/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, January 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"The product of a no-pressure vintage that allowed the grapes to be picked at optimum ripeness and co-fermented to produce a very individual and extremely tasty wine. A pale rosé made from “a unique assemblage of varieties”. It is dry with just the merest hint of sweetness balanced by fruity acidity. A nicely textural wine with a good backbone of drying tannins."
5 Stars Yvonne Lorkin, January 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"Now you’d imagine for a company so famous for pinot noir, that their rosé would be fashioned from exactly that. Not so for Pegasus Bay, with their Main Divide 2021. Rather it’s a secret blend of multiple varieties that create an ultra-pale, pink sapphire coloured example. with aromas of white peach, red currant and a tweak of Red Anjou pear. Energetic, refreshing, and roaring with melon and soft citrus, it’s ripe, fleshy yet taut in all the right places. Zesty and delicious."
92/100 Cameron Douglas MS, December 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"Bright, vibrant and fruity bouquet with aromas of fresh red apple and strawberry, some cherry and rose scents lead to a palate of the same with citrus and tropical fruit flavours. Crisp and salty on the palate with a coarse silk texture, some mineral moments and youthful raw energy. Well made and ready to drink from 2022 through 2024."
91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, December 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"It's beautifully lifted on the nose showing passionfruit, crunchy apple, apricot and lime peel aromas, leading to a delightfully light palate that's juicy and refreshing. Pristine and lively with a lengthy crisp finish, offering excellent drinkability. At its best: now to 2023."
Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"The 2021 vintage is a blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Pale pink, it is a freshly scented, lively, medium-bodied wine, with gentle strawberry, peach and spice flavours and a slightly off-dry (4.6 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish."
4 Stars & 90/100 NZ Wine Rater, March 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"Very pale, blush pink in colour. Distinctively herbaceous on the nose with Sauvignon-like gooseberry, passionfruit and guava characters with just a hint of red berry. A dry, lighter-bodied style, quite textural and tasty with plenty of acidity. An individualistic, idiosyncratic style that's not without merit but is certainly a departure from the norm."
