"Its colour is deep purple. The bouquet is a patchwork of dark forest fruit and earthy nuances. Suggestions of blackcurrant, boysenberry and damson plum are alluringly pitched against hints of cedar, olive tapenade, mocha and a touch of star anise. In the mouth there is generous fruit weight and stylish concentration, the wine’s full body complimented by ripe, spicy tannins and crackling acidity that adds focus and a satisfying tension. Intensifying across the palate, it lingers on the finish, enticing you back for more."

"Flavours of red berries and plums, boysenberry and Doris plums, there’s moments of sweet olive and black berry that sit nicely alongside toasty wood and vanilla flavours of oak. Dry, medium+ weight with fine tannins and easily assimilated acidity. Well made with a moderate finish. Best drinking from 2024 through 2-28+."

Main Divide is operated by the Donaldson family who work with a number of vineyards in North Canterbury, bringing the fruit together for processing at their winery in Waipara.
Like many New Zealand winemakers, Main Divide pursues a philosophy of natural methods and minimal intervention. They believe in sustainable viticulture, organic techniques, low crop levels, and minimal fruit handling during processing (along with gentle pressing).
Main Divide allows their wine to go through fermentation by wild yeasts, natural secondary or malo-lactic fermentation, and to clarify by settling.
Wine-maker Matthew Donaldson many years of experience and passion to produce a range of wines that show fresh, clean and pure fruit flavours while at the same time clearly expressing the characteristics of each unique vineyard. Matthew has many years experience making wine for both new and old world producers with a particular emphasis on Pinot Noir producing regions.
