Black Estate winemaker Nicholas Brown has been awarded 2022 NZ Winemaker of the Year by Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine

Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Our three organic vineyards, together as one. Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, picked across our three vineyards, pressed and progressively fermented to become one.

Pale pink hue with slight haze, unfiltered. Vibrant and bright aroma of strawberry, jasmine, cardamom and petrichor. The palate is uplifting, saline and long with flavours of wild raspberry, watermelon, and pomegranate. Drink now to 2026.

All grapes were whole bunch pressed and the juice was co-fermented with vineyard yeast in stainless steel tanks. Post fermentation the wine matured on fermentation lees for 4 months. 50ppm Sulphites added. Bottled without fining or filtration. The resulting wine was Pinot Noir (87%), Riesling (7%), Cabernet Franc (4%), Chenin Blanc (1%), Chardonnay (1%)."

Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"Bright, fresh, loaded with a bouquet of red cherry and raspberry fruits, there’s a crushed stone mineral quality and raw red papaya flesh tropical fruit suggestion. Textures of fine fruit tannins and acidity touch the palate first then flavours of red berries and papaya follow. Salivating, fleshy, fruity and new with a dry finish. Well made, lots to like and perfect with food. Best drinking from 2023 through end of summer 2027."
