Winery notes (2026 Vintage)
"“The Jules Rosé” is handcrafted for anyone who dares to be different and is all about celebrating your own individual sense of style – But without taking yourself too seriously of course.
Merlot grapes for this wine come from silt/clay loam soils in the beautiful Patutahi Valley in Gisborne – the first wine region in New Zealand to see the rising sun each morning – and give beautiful ripe berry characters and mid palate weight to the wine. Jules then blends these grapes with some Pinot Noir grown in the Brancott Valley and Lower Wairau in Marlborough, enhancing the aromas and giving a pleasant, dry freshness to the finish.
Bunches of Merlot were machine-picked in the early morning to keep the grapes fresh and flavour-packed in the cooler temperatures. Once at the winery, the grapes were crushed and pressed immediately. They were then gently pressed off the skins and fermentation was kicked off with an aromatic yeast. Temperatures were kept cool to preserve the delicate aromas. We also harvested two parcels of Pinot Noir from Marlborough which were treated the same way as the Merlot. At the end of fermentation, the two wines were blended and settled for a time, stabilised and given a light filtration to preserve the beautiful pale pink hue, and sealed with a screw cap for maximum flavour and freshness!
A heady perfume of ripe strawberries, raspberries and cherries combine with a hint of peach and vanilla, and delicious floral aromas. This dry, elegant Rosé is packed full of vibrant berry and tropical fruits. A concentrated palate and silky texture give way to a lingering, luxurious finish. It is the perfect glass for relaxed alfresco occasions. Serve chilled."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2026 (2026 Vintage)
"Delightfully fruited and finely expressed, the inviting bouquet reveals white-fleshed nectarine, lemon peel, crunchy apple, and sweet strawberry notes, followed by a finely flowing palate that's succulent and lingering. Beautifully composed and styled with a refreshing mouthfeel, offering fabulous drinking. At its best: now to 2029."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2026 (2026 Vintage)
"Delicious, bright and fresh, crunchy, fruity, ripe and enticing. Aromas and flavours of red apple and rose, quince and tropical fruit tea. Fresh and salivating as the wine touches the palate, crunchy with red apple and cherry flavours, some rose and stony mineral qualities. Fine fruit tannins and a satin mouthfeel leads to balanced, even and complete finish. Well made with best drinking from day of purchase through 2029."
