Year in year out, The Lodge Hill Shiraz provides excellent drinking and throw in exceptional vintage conditions in 2022, and you've got the makings a very smart wine. Already a winner of four gold medals and a top five placing in the Cuisine Australian Shiraz tasting, this is clearly a winner!
Made in a refined style, with savoury, spicy characters that complement red berry aromas and flavours. Succulent, fine-grained tannins add structure and complexity. Overall, just an extremely delicious wine that hits all the right spots, as it has obviously done with wine judges and critics alike!
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"A pastoral run dating back to 1839, and originally named Wolta Wolta, the 329 acre Lodge Hill Vineyard is situated on the Eastern Ranges, five kilometres east of the Clare township. Jim Barry purchased the land for The Lodge Hill Vineyard in 1977 as he was sure it would “produce some of the best Riesling in the Clare Valley.” However in 1979, Jim Barry planted his first Shiraz in this location, and it has gone on to produce our award winning Lodge Hill Shiraz.
Spiced blue and black fruits leading the nose, intertwined with high class oak. The wine is youthful and vibrant with hints of black pepper, black plum, and a spicy lift. On entry, the palate is all blue and black fruits with integrated oak, then moves into a bunch like spice, married with violets and black pepper, finishing back in the blue compote spectrum. A layered and detailed for those on the lookout. Delicious!"
92/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, October 2025 (2022 Vintage)
"Yes. Value plus. Lovely wine to drink. Bright red berried fruit flavours, gently jellied, gently infused with orange oil, run into notes of sweet spice, mints, woodsy herbs, licorice even. It’s the combination of brightness and depth that wins the day. And complexity; inherent, unforced and delicious. Tannin here deserves a mention too. Everything in this wine is good."
4 ½ Stars & Top 5 Cuisine Australian Shiraz Tasting, July 2025 (2022 Vintage)
"Youthful and bright with high-toned ripe, dark fruit with a dash of bright red-fruited freshness on the nose. The palate is plump and approachable with a lovely concentrated fruit weight counterbalanced by bright acid that gives this wine a lifted finish."
