Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"The vineyards we harvest sit at 240-280m altitude and are quite spectacular. “Heroic viticulture” is a well suited term for this site. All are old bush vine 40-80 years old, perched on steep rolling sites at the base of the cliffs on the northern edge of the Agly valley, near Queribus, on classic Schist and Gres (sandy) schist.
Our organic Grenache and Carignan grapes are hand-harvested a little earlier than most in the region. Wild fermentation, minimal intervention and then stored in small concrete vats. No oak is used. An exceptionally fine example of what the Roussillon region can deliver.
Grenache (60%) Carignan (40%) a wine of power but not at the cost of elegance and finesses. This is classic Maury Grenache – huge dark brooding fruit, great concentration and rich texture with top quality Carignan adding freshness, acidity and bright fruit. It is this elegance and freshness that marks it out."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2024 (2021 Vintage)
"Rich and complex, the wine shows blackberry, assorted nut, toasted spice and potpourri aromas on the nose. The palate is equally satisfying with excellent weight and fleshy texture, leading to a lengthy, flavoursome finish. Generous and opulent, offering terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2031."
