Boy, are we excited about the 2024 vintage wines to come out of Hawkes Bay. If this is any indication of what's to come, then we are in for some seriously good wines! This consistently good Hawkes Bay Chardonnay continues to offer jaw-dropping value and even more so in an outstanding vintage such as 2024.
With the fruit coming of the Famous Keltern vineyard, this has all the ingredients for a tasty Chardonnay, and that's exactly what's in the glass. Nothing complex or in your face, just a great glass of Chardonnay at nothing short of a sensational price. Beautifully balanced citrus and peach notes with savoury grilled nuts and a lick of butter, framed with wonderful acidity and nuanced flinty characters. Wonderful!
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"The fruit for this wine was sourced from the iconic Keltern vineyard in the Bridge Pa triangle sub-region of Hawke's Bay. The fruit profile of this vineyard gives a blend of ripe stonefruit and zesty citrus characters as well as bright acidity and flinty complexity. Meticulous vineyard management is carried out in the pursuit of quality.
The individual vineyard parcels were harvested in good condition in early March and fermented in a mix of tank and seasoned French oak barriques (50%). A small portion was encouraged through malo-lactic fermentation to soften the wine and add richness and complexity. After fermentation the wines were left on their yeast lees with regular stirring until blending and bottling after 9 months of ageing.
This is a medium bodied and elegant Hawke's Bay Chardonnay. Its flavour profile is a mix of refreshing citrus and melon with underlying notes of fresh baking and grilled nuts. It is both complex and delicious."
88/100 Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review, September 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"The team at Indevin drew fruit from two highly regarded vineyards for this value-driven wine: Keltern and Two Terraces. Half was fermented in stainless steel and the other half in oak barrels. Some malolactic conversion was allowed to occur and the wine aged for 12 months on lees with regular stirring before bottling. Given the fruit sources and winemaking involved, it is a wonder that the wine is priced so affordably.
Mild, creamy chardonnay with seamless texture, balanced by a touch of complexity. The light-weight flavours of white peach and ripe citrus are accompanied by a hint of both French nougat and salinity, giving this easy-drinking appeal while avoiding the excesses of oak and butteriness. A forward-leaning wine with immediate accessibility, it’s crowd pleasing yet modern."
