Winey notes (2022 Vintage)
"This exquisite blend consists of 61% Grenache noir, 34% Syrah, 3% Carignan, 1% Cinsaut, and 1% Pinotage. The grapes for this Grenache noir-based blend are sourced from 12 different vineyards, harvested over 15 days during the vintage. The Elpidios features four components fermented and matured in concrete vessels: two lots of Grenache noir, as well as Cinsaut and Syrah. The remaining wine is matured in old 500L neutral French oak barrels and a single 4,100L foudré (Pinotage), both old and neutral oak components.
The winemaking process remains consistent with our main Grenache noir, involving long, gentle extraction, an average use of 40% whole bunches, and pressing off. After bottling, the wine is aged in bottle for 18 months before release.
This full-bodied, dry red wine boasts a beautifully balanced ruby color. It exudes enticing aromas of red berries, blueberry, dark plum, blackcurrant, and notes of vanilla and oak. The palate is treated to a long, fruity aftertaste with hints of black pepper and vanilla, making it a truly exceptional wine."

"This is an impressive blend of 61% Grenache Noir (a specialty of this estate), 34% Syrah, 3% Carignan, 1% Pinotage and 1% Cinsault. The David & Nadia 2022 Swartland Elpidios has a charming bouquet with exotic spice, licorice, cumin seed, olive tapenade, pressed blue flowers and blackcurrant. It shows a medium-lean mouthfeel but nevertheless embraces enormous brightness and tension. This wine would make an ideal partner to a classic chicken dinner. A total of 11,858 bottles were released."
94/100 Neal Martin, Vinous (2022 Vintage)
"The 2022 Elpidios contains the highest percentage of Grenache thus far. This has a glorious bouquet of ebullient red cherries, cranberry and rooibos scents intermixed with red brick aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins. It’s beautifully balanced, with fine tension and a very refined finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a must-buy from David and Nadia Sadie."

"61% Grenache, 34% Syrah, 5% Carignan, 1% Cinsault and 1% Pinotage – grapes from 12 different vineyards. 40% whole-bunch fermentation. Matured for 18 months in a combination of concrete, neutral 500-litre barrels and foudre. Subtle and alluring aromatics of red and black berries, fynbos, earth and spice. The palate is pure and tightly wound, the finish super-dry – this vintage has an extra cohesion and elegance about it perhaps due to the high Grenache component. "
