Compania Vinicola del Norte de Espana (C.V.N.E.) is known colloquially to most Spanish wine drinkers as Cune. The company was founded in 1879 by the Real de Asua brothers and still remains in control of their direct descendants.
A delicious new white label from Cune. Actually, the iconic "Monopole" wine is not new — it is the oldest existing white wine label in Spain, having been released since as far back as 1915. It is made in a traditional style with 100% Vuira warm-fermented and then raised in steel tanks. Refreshing but with a good bit of texture and flavour, the Cune Monopole is a steal for the price.
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"The grapes come from our own vineyards in Rioja Alta, and from our local usual providers. The main variety is viura, and the vines are bush trained, with soils of cool clay loam. All viticulture labour is carried out manually, including harvest.
Pale yellow in colour, this wine reveals clean, precise aromas of white flowers and fresh fruits such as pineapple, banana, and apple. On the palate, it shines with balance and harmony, offering a smooth, approachable texture and a lingering floral and fruity finish."
89/100 Decanter UK (2024 Vintage)
"Opulent, sweet nose with a tail of apple blossom, frangipane and white peach. A subtle mineral lining brings focus to the rich flavours of quince, pear, peardrop, lemon curd and banana."
