Gold Medal – New World Wine Awards 2024
Over a century has passed since Don Melchor, the winery's founder, created a legend. When he discovered his finest Concha y Toro wines were missing, he spread the word amongst the local villagers that the devil lived in his cellar. From that day, the wine has been known as Casillero del Diablo, the devil's cellar. And the wine thieves remain deterred.
Casillero del Diablo Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep and intense ruby red. The expression of cassis in this wine perfectly represents the Valle Central and its richness in fruit such as cherries and plums. The barrel ageing length thanks to the toast and coffee notes. Medium bodied with silky tannins and long, ripe fruit and berry aftertaste, with impressive balance of fruit and polished tannins.
90/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"A lovely expression of the variety, showing dark berry, thyme, clove and nutmeg aromas on the nose, followed by a fruit-expressive palate delivering silky texture backed by chalky tannins, finishing long and sturdy. At its best: now to 2027."
Reviews for the 2021 vintage below…
Tim Atkin MW (2021 Vintage)
"One of those mass-market wines that rarely, if ever, lets you down, this 26 million bottle blend from Chile’s biggest producer uses grapes from Maule, Rapel and the Maipo Valley. Subtly wooded, with classic blackcurrant pastille, mint and fresh herb flavours and a whisper of oak spices. Outstanding at the price."
