Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir is the perfect wine to take when you don’t know what’s for dinner. Versatile and food-friendly, it has a signature silky elegance. A benchmark Marlborough wine, Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir is proof that Marlborough’s climate and clay soils make it much more than a one-grape region.
The grapes are de-stemmed and put into open-top fermenters with wild yeast. Some whole bunches are included to build structure. Once the wine is pressed, it’s matured in French oak for 11 months. The final wine is an elegant, complex and fine-boned expression of Marlborough’s soils and Cloudy Bay’s vision.
Open and expressive on the nose, with notes of wild hedgerow fruits, crushed rose petals and sun-warmed red cherry. The palate is finely tuned, with silky tannins and a pure dart of acidity framing and balancing out a core of summer berries, soft spices and a touch of biscuity vanilla. Long on the finish, this wine evokes warm summer evenings, strawberries nestled under shaded leaves and the lingering scent of barbecue smoke."
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, April 2025 (2022 Vintage)
"A lovely bouquet, ripe and fresh, varietal and perfumed, scents of cherry and strawberry then dried herb and drying rose petals. There’s a distinctive mineral quality suggesting a clay & stone combination enhanced by baking spice and barrel-smoke layers. Delicious on the palate, dry with a frame of tannins and acidity then flavours of red berries and plum to reflect the bouquet. Lengthy, well made, a building complexity and lasting mouthfeel. Best from 2028 through 2035+."
90+/100 Erin Larkin, RobertParker.com, February 2025 (2022 Vintage)
"The 2022 Pinot Noir is creamy and spicy, with poached strawberries, sumac, some oak that pokes through and plenty of chalky tannin. The wine feels a little "elbows and knees" currently; but the cuvée ages well, and this appears to have all it needs to go some distance in the cellar. It's light in frame but with persistent flavour."

5 Stars & 95/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review (2021 Vintage)
"Good depth of colour with plum, red cherry, spicy oak, floral/violet and subtle roast chestnut flavours adding up to a moderately complex and deliciously accessible pinot noir with potential for further bottle development. Elegant wine with an appealing texture."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"This consistently classy red is grown at sites on the cooler, more clay-influenced south side of the Wairau Valley, in Marlborough, and matured in French oak barrels (25 to 40 per cent new). Already delicious, the very ageworthy 2021 is a top vintage. Deeply coloured and finely scented, it is mouthfilling, rich and supple, with highly concentrated, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, finely integrated oak, and a smooth-flowing, finely textured finish. Best drinking 2026+."
93/100 James Suckling (2021 Vintage)
"Plenty of ripe strawberry with some black cherry character too. Violets and other flowers. Full-bodied with plenty of fruit and fine tannins that nicely frame the wine. Just a hint of smoke to the clear fruit and toasted oak. Very drinkable now, but two or three years of bottle age will bring it together even more."
