We are going to be hearing more and more about the quality of red wines to come out of the 2024 Hawkes Bay vintage, if this wine is anything to go by.
There's no substitute for perfectly ripe fruit as a starting point for all great wines, and upon tasting this wine you will understand why. The wine is just so harmonious, with tannins, acid and fruit all coming together to create a wine that has us saying… "damn, that's impressive!"
So approachable now as a young wine (as all great wines should be), this will also age spectacularly if you allow it some time in the cellar.
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"Classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec & Merlot. Intense cassis aromatics on the nose | fresh blackcurrant on the palate | fine silky tannins provide a perfectly balanced mouthfeel. Will certainly reward for cellaring but already delicious!"
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"Youthful and vibrant dark purple hues winemaker Matt Kirby has captured the essence of Cabernet with a bouquet of ripe and juicy blackberry flesh laced with scents of violet and fresh tobacco then baking spices of clove and nutmeg. Complex, youthful and new. On the palate a dry wine with plenty of weight, mouthfeel, texture and fruit. Firm tannins and plenty of acidity precede flavours of dark berries and spice then wood smoke and stony earth qualities. Well made, a wine that should be in your cellar ton age with best drinking from 2029 through 2038+."
