Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Intensely fragrant with dark berry fruits, sweet vanillan spice, mocha and cedary oak notes. Perfumed florals supported with savoury tobacco and wild herb aromas. Fleshy and full of rich silky tannins, wonderfully concentrated berry fruit flavours, and a long juicy finish.
The grapes for this wine were sourced from the lower terrace of the Askerne vineyard, across different soil profiles from sandy silt through to gravels, giving wonderful complexity to the individual parcels that make up the blend. Each batch was fermented as individual varieties followed by extended post maceration on skins to build richness. After pressing, the wines were settled and racked to oak barriques. Here they completed malolactic fermentation and were matured for 12 months before blending. The final blend comprises of 52% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Malbec, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. 40% new oak component and 15% second fill oak."
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, April 2025 (2021 Vintage)
"Aromas of tobacco and blackberry, black currant and Doris plums, violet and pressed roses, pencil lead and gravelly soils. A complex and enticing bouquet. On the palate a dry wine with complexity and texture. Tannins are long chain with polish, acidity carries dark fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet along with tobacco and iron, pencil lead, violet and dried rose petals. A wine of finesse, charm and early drinking. Best from 2027 through 2033+."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2024 (2021 Vintage)
"Wonderfully fruited and fragrant, the wine shows blackcurrant, toasty oak, tobacco and warm spice aromas on the nose, followed by a superbly weighted palate offering plump mouthfeel and supple texture. Sturdy and well structured by layers of fine tannins, finishing persistent and satisfying. At its best: now to 2033."
