MAIN DIVIDE PINOT GRIS 2014 is available to buy in increments of 1
Like all the other Main Divide wines, this over delivers on the flavour, quality and value fronts to offer excellent drinking at a fantastic price. Lusciously off dry with a richness, concentration of flavour, and complexity that could only come from Pegasus Bay. Aromas and flavours of ripe pear and spice, judicious residual sugar, added texture from barrel fermentation and lees aging, and a mineral freshness keeping it all in balance are rare attributes in a Pinot Gris at this price. Embrace and enjoy!
Sue Courtney, wineoftheweek.com (2014 Vintage)
"The honeydew colour has a soft golden glow. The bouquet is so rich, so heady, so full of nectar and botrytis – like honeyed apricots and citrus preserves. Then in the mouth the texture of the wine is all silk and satin with a soft, rounded flow. A luscious wine, concentrated and rich with botrytis kept in check by a suggestion of lemon balm infusing the predominant flavours of reconstituted freeze-dried pears poached in nectar embellished with sugar and spice and all things nice. It’s almost a desert wine but works well to balance the salty crispy crackling of roast pork with apple sauce."
91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit (2014 Vintage)
"Not your usual easy-going pinot gris, this is seriously styled showing aromas of baked peach, mandarin, flint and spice on the nose. The palate is concentrated and lush with gorgeous fruit richness and a hint of sweetness, brilliantly structured by bright acidity. It is long, sumptuous and gratifying. At its best: now to 2018."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2014 Vintage)
"From Pegasus Bay, this is consistently a great buy. The 2014 vintage is a powerful, Alsace-style wine, with 'noble botrytis and lees-aging' influences. Pale yellow, with a fragrant, slightly honeyed bouquet, it is mouthfilling, with fresh acidity, strong, peachy, spicy, gently sweet and honeyed flavours, a hint of ginger, and a long, distinctly spicy finish. Still youthful, it should be at its best 2016+."
4 Stars & 17.5+/20 Raymond Chan, April 2015 (2014 Vintage)
"Late-picked Waipara Valley fruit with a portion botrytis affected, fermented to 14.0% alc. and approx. 15 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. Full lemony yellow with golden hues, lighter on rim. This has a full, solid and deeply concentrated nose with aromas of ripe, savoury stonefruits, tropical fruits, honey and musk, along with marmalade-like botrytis. The aromatics are complex and blossom in volume and layers of interest. Medium in sweetness and medium-full bodied, the palate is softly packed with rich and rounded flavours of yellow stonefruits, honey and marmalade, along with musk and earth. The acidity is low, enhancing the softness and near unctuousness of the mouthfeel. This has good weight and presence. The wine flows smoothly to a soft and long, lingering finish. This is a softly full, luscious and rounded medium Pinot Gris with savoury stonefruits, marmalade and musk flavours. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3+ years."
