John Duval was winemaker at Penfolds for 29 years and Chief Winemaker in charge of Grange, for 17 of those. He was also responsible for the creation of the RWT Shiraz. He created his own label in 2003.

"From old vineyards in Krondorf, Marananga and Eden Valley, open-fermented with submerged cap (header board), matured for 15 months in French oak (35% new). Succulent, rich and powerful, with predominantly black fruits and some spice. The hallmarks are its supple mouthfeel and effortless balance."

"​Sourced from (old) vines at Krondorf and Marananga in the Barossa, and from the Eden Valley. Barrel fermented in French oak, 30% new.
Toasty shiraz. Blackberried and boysenberried at once; oomph and lift. Floral. Spicy. Grainy. A little coffeed. And earthen. It’s a wine of vineyards and coopers. Acidity sits reasonably high but there’s a crystallised sweetness to it; the acid doesn’t jut or poke, it helps enliven the darkness of the fruit. I wasn’t bowled over but it’s a faultless wine."
