4 1/2 Stars Cuisine Pinot Noir Tasting, May 2016 (2013 Vintage)
"The winery that produced our top chardonnay last year has delivered another Pete Bartle-made gem. Rich, opulent fruit delivers a bright canvas of flavours. This pinot is lengthy, fleshy in texture and very ready to be enjoyed right now – perhaps alongside sea-run smoked salmon."
4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper (2013 Vintage)
"The 2013 vintage is a youthful, single-vineyard red from Lowburn, in the Cromwell Basin. Matured for eight months in French oak barriques (31 per cent new), it is ruby-hued and mouthfilling, with deep, vibrant cherry, plum and spice flavours, fine-grained tannins, and a long, tight finish."
4 Stars & 18.0/20 Raymond Chan, January 2015 (2013 Vintage)
Clones 5 and 113, hand-picked, destemmed, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.2% alc., the wine aged 8 ½ months in 31% new French oak barriques. Full, even, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is gently voluminous with deep, primary dark raspberry fruit aromas, entwined with delicate herb notes, lifted violet florals and some oak toastiness that unfolds with aeration. Medium-bodied, vibrant, primary, dark red berry fruit and plum flavours form a finely concentrated core with good depth and intensity. The fruit is detailed and balanced by fresh dark herb and spicy, toasty oak nuances. This has good extraction and structure that supports the fruit, providing substantial grip and mouthfeel. The tannins are very fine-grained, forming a firm line that carries the dark fruit flavours to a long, elegant finish. This is an elegantly proportioned, youthful Pinot Noir with ripe dark berry and plum fruit, with a fine, firm structure. Match with lamb, beef, venison and harder cheeses over the next 6-7+ years. 390 dozen made."
93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2016 (2013 Vintage)
"Richly fruited and generously expressed, the bouquet shows dark berry, game, clove and black olive characters with nuances of toasted almond and vanilla. The palate is concentrated and beautifully weighted, and offers attractive fruit intensity and silky texture, wonderfully structured by fine, firm tannins. Very long on the finish with plenty of delectable flavours. At its best: now to 2020."
