Metro Top 50 Wines for Summer, Paul Tutor MW (2014 Vintage)
"This is undoubtedly the best-value pinot noir available locally, with bright cherry and wild berry fruit, but accompanied by savoury, salty secondary characters. One of my aims in creating this list was to hunt down red wines that could be served slightly cool during the heat of summer. Yes, you could serve it chilled, but this wine is far, far better than that. A serious wine for the price, structured, dry and with a firm finish to enjoy all through the meal."
Jo Burzynska (2014 Vintage)
"Made through a collaboration between respected winemaker Rod McDonald and local Master of Wine Stephen Bennett, this is one of most complex pinots available at its price. Its dense black cherry fruit is joined by notes of smoke and spice supported by some structuring tannins."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2014 Vintage)
"From wine distributor Steve Bennett, the 2014 vintage is from 'mature' vines and was aged for nine months in French oak barriques (one to two years old.) Ruby hued, with a hint of development, it is fragrant and mouthfilling, with ripe plum/spice flavours, nutty and savoury, and fairly firm tannins. Showing good personality, it offers fine value. Drink now-2018."
91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2016 (2014 Vintage)
"A richly savoury rendition, the complex bouquet shows dark cherry, smoked meat, clove and violet characters with nuances of leather and dried herbs. The palate delivers excellent fruit weight and fine texture, wonderfully supported by plenty of polished tannins. A sturdy, brooding pinot showing lovely fruit power as well as earthy, savoury undertones. At its best: now to 2019."
4 Stars & 17.5/20 Raymond Chan, April 2016 (2014 Vintage)
"Moderately dark ruby-red colour with garnet hues with a hint of brick at the edge. This is firm and well-packed with aromas of savoury dark-red berry fruits entwined with subtle earthy, dried herb and nutty oak note, unfolding spice elements. Medium-full bodied, soft and gently sweet, rich and succulent flavours of savoury soft-red berry fruits feature on the palate, and unfold subtle layers of earth and dried herbs and oak notes. The mouthfeel is very harmonious with soft and supple tannin extraction and integrated acidity contributing to the smooth flow. A little alcohol power emerges, adding to the drive. Red florals, earth and spice nuances blossom as the wine leads to a seamless, lingering finish. This is a soft, smooth-flowing Pinot Noir with harmoniously interwoven flavours of savoury red fruits, dried herbs and earth. Match with wild duck and pork over the next 4 years. Pinot Noir fruit from mature vines on the "upper terrace just outside Martinborough”, fermented with 20% whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in 1 and 2 y.o. French oak barriques."
90/100 Wine Enthusiast, March 2018 (2014 Vintage)
"A bright bouquet of red currants, strawberries, back pepper, olives and medicinal bitters show this Pinot to be approachable when young, particularly by Martinborough standards. The palate is silky, savoury, earthy and red-fruited, finishing salty yet refreshing."
